Hard to believe that it’s already 2010. I’ve been modding for 10 years. That is scary. Hopefully Jabberwocky won’t take me another 10 to complete.
Overland We Go
I’ve made some progress with the Overland Map and have 95% of the static locations finished. I’m not sure what I would have done without the phenomenal work that was done by Wyrin in the North Cormyr OM Prefab. After taking that prefab and massaging it for a few weeks, I seem to have a workable map. Wyrin’s prefab was invaluable for figuring out the OM system. Thank you! The great part about the OM is it adds so much more play time with minimal effort and it’s quite fun. The first time the player gets chased down by a pack of Jub Jub Birds on the moors will be a good day. Despite what critics have said about SoZ and the OM system, I think the folks at Obsidian hit gold with this one. I’ve posted a screenie showing one of many strange and magical locations for the player to explore.
Creature Comforts
Jabberwocky will feature many creatures mentioned in the poem, but it will also have a rich bestiary that will give the world a lived in feel. One of the areas the player will explore is deep within a mountain range. Caverns can be a dangerous place for the inexperienced and the unwary may end up on a spit. Besides the obvious creatures such as Bandersnatches and Jabberwocks, I will feature other creatures like rat men, green slime, wisps, ferocious cats, and as you can see in this screen shot, hill giants (thanks to Evil Edison) who are more than happy to grind the player into a nice mush that tastes great on toast.
I originally wanted to use a prefab off of the vault for this cavern so that I wouldn’t have to spend a lot of time on it. After looking
through it I decided to make the area a little fancier…and then a lot fancier. The area is shaping up nicely and will basically be a Giant Cave 2.0 when I’m done. After all this work, I’ll also most likely release the area as a prefab on the vault as a refurbished edition of the original with proper credit of course.
Looking awesome!
